The Chery J3 was introduced to the motoring media at a well attended launch held at the Lombardy Boutique Hotel in Pretoria.
Wang Mo, Managing Director of Chery Overseas Iinvestment Co Ltd, Brett Soso, Managing Director of Chery SA, 25 journalists from South Africa’s mainstream media, as well as 60 distribution network managers and salespeople of Chery South Africa were present at the launch ceremony.
The Chery J3 enters the very competitive B segment market – predominantly medium size hatch backs.
In this segment the J3 offers the most standard features at a comparable cost to the competition. The list of standard equipment is impressive and includes 6 airbags, ABS brakes with EBD, partial-leather seats and trim, automatic climate control, automatic headlight and windscreen wiper controls, an MP3 compatible audio system with USB port and six speakers, audio controls on the steering wheel, alloy wheels, rear park distance control, electrically-operated windows and rear view mirrors, alarm, immobiliser, and remote central locking.
So it has a wealth of features but how does it drive?
According to the Car Mag report – “To be honest, the J3 actually rides pretty well.”
The Autoworld review summarised the Chery J3 as follows – “The new Chinese built Chery J3 is also a good “around town” car. It has quite good all-round visibility, a smallish turning circle that makes it easy to park, is both smooth and relatively silent in the cab, and the drive feel is much the same as most of the other small hatchbacks on the market selling for as much 40% more.”
